Division of Emergency Management
Sheriff's Department
Required at all levels of government, the Emergency Management Division administers federal and state laws and regulations governing emergency management and preparedness programs in Northampton County. The division develops and maintains emergency readiness plans; conducts emergency management training programs and disaster exercises; develops and publicizes instructions and other materials related to emergency management and mass care centers. The emergency management program is coordinated with programs of adjacent counties, local units, and the state and federal Emergency Management Agencies.
Examples of programs the Division is involved with:
SUPERFUND AMENDMENT REAUTHORIZATION ACT (SARA) Title III, Act 165 - Federal legislation enacted to encourage and support emergency planning efforts at the state and local level, provide citizens and local agencies with information concerning potential chemical hazards in the community and develop programs to protect the resident and property.
Provide Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training for local emergency medical service responders.
Provide hazardous materials response to local fire departments.
Disaster Response and recovery operations, and Damage Mitigation Programs.
Represent Northampton County as a Board-member of the Northeast Pennsylvania emergency Response Group / Regional Counter-Terrorism Task Force.
The Operations Center is located in Room 012 (basement) of the Greystone Building at the Gracedale Complex in Upper Nazareth Township. Normal hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The phone number is 610-759-2600; fax number is 610-759-2172. For emergencies after normal hours of operation, residents are requested to call the 911 Center. The non-emergency number is 330-2200.
